What was the brief?
The premise provided by the homeowner was as straightforward as it gets. The home should be doused in neutrals with a touch of Nordic-Scandinavian décor style. And when the clients have such clear and precise thought process, designing feels like a smooth sailing. Designing is all about to listen carefully to our client’s brief and requirements and imbibe their aspirations, fondness and expectations for their house.
Design philosophy.
Inspired by the confluence of Nordic and Scandinavian Interior styles, ‘Project UnDyed’ crafted by founder, Sheetal Agrawal of The Canvas Project commanded to deliver a home which demonstrates, how to live big in a small house. Enchantment lies in the colour scheme. White is the hero and it is married with its many variants thereby creating a calmness to this dimensional space.
As one strolls through the front door, one is greeted by a monochromatic and teak palette with a striking artwork. The overall interior space is kept white to make the space look airy and light while meeting the aesthetically functional requirements. Once inside, you can visually feel the open layout of the living room with a focus point of Fire Place. Connecting to living room is an Open Kitchen which is prelude to the shades of white. Moving on to Kids room, dedicated as a nursery room, with a splash of peach and customised wallpaper. Master bedroom is all about coherence of the space with a neutral white theme. We brought in colours through fabrics and art and warm wood tone through the furniture piece.
What were the difficulties, or first setbacks encountered?
Given the brief to include a fire place in living room, excited us but looking at the compact space, we took on this a head on challenge and Introducing a breakfast table and opening up the kitchen to all it’s glory were one of the many challenges.
The kitchen in all white was the only space not really getting any large amounts of natural light. So we decided to knock down the partition wall between living and the kitchen allowing light as well as conversations through it. Adding a breakfast table, was an extra advantage of this civil change.
Material detail.
The material palette consists of Veneer, PU, colour body tile(Fire place, Breakfast table and Kitchen wall dado), Quartz in Kitchen and customised wallpaers(Kids room). Every corner in the house is aptly lit and airy. Light, harmonious, and perfectly balanced – the style informs the colour palette and material scheme.
Project USP
Fluted glass partition element was added between Living and Kitchen to allow natural light to flood in and give a modern minimalistic touch to the apartment and Recursively using the same palette to connect the entire space was one of the highlights. There are small pivots in every room for ex : Fire place ,false ceiling rafters in Living Room, convertible study table in master bedroom, that extendable bed and customised Polar Bear Wallpaper in Kids Room.
